Mike Kaupa - Trumpet, Electronics
I recently played a solo performance at the Pausa Art House in Buffalo and hope to do more solo engagements in the future. I am working with the IFCM at the Harley School, where we will be performing with Harley School Jazz Ensemble members, Rochester City School District students and others, March 12 at 7PM. I will be performing with Bill Dobbins at The 92nd Street Y, in New York City on March 20, as part of the Marian McPartland Tribute event
Mike’s Teaching Philosophy:
I make sure that students are having fun. Playing by ear and sneaking in jazz theory when possible is my rule of thumb. I usually meet kids half-way, with playing music in a style that they can relate to, while making sure that I sincerely relate to it also.
