The second annual Fayetteville Jazz Festival will be held on April 11, 24, and 25. Featured guest artists include trumpet player Garrett Schmidt (Maria Schneider Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Who) and saxophonist Alisha Pattillo (Alisha’s Quartet, H-Town Collective, Joe Sample). All festival events are free and open to the public.

Festivities kick off on April 11 at the Fayetteville Public Library with educational workshops and performances given by University of Arkansas professor Dr. Kimberly Hannon Teal and local professional Alisha Pattillo.

The weekend of April 24 features workshops and performances on the University of Arkansas campus. On April 24, Garrett Schmidt will work with the University of Arkansas jazz and trumpet students as well as students from the Community Music School Jazz Workshops. The following day brings regional school jazz groups to Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall for performances and educational clinics, and the evening concert includes Alisha, Garrett, the U of A Jazz Faculty Combo, and selected student soloists from the day’s performances.

College, high school, junior high, and middle school groups can register to participate in the event at http://tiny.cc/2020FayJazzFest until April 1st. Registration fee is $100 per group. Each group will perform for 25 minutes and then receive a 20-minute workshop with one of the festival guest artists based on their performance program. The U of A Community Music School and Institute for Creative Music will award several youth scholarships for the 2020 U of A Community Music School Summer Jazz Camp to high-performing students who participate in the performance clinics on April 25th. Detailed information on school workshop guidelines and benefits can be found here.
