Paul Motian tribute concert, 4/11

In one week the IfCM Collective will embark on a livestream concert tribute to the Paul Motian Trio. Led by drummer and composer Paul Motian, this group recorded and performed starting in the mid-1980s and featured tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and guitarist Bill Frisell. This unconventional bass-free instrumentation played a startling variety of avant-garde, American Songbook, and original compositions utilizing a variety of textures that unfolded rather than exploded into improvisation.

I (Chris Teal) will be drumming the drums and cymbaling the cymbals, Nick Finzer will trom the trombone, and our good friend Mike Frederick (on the road in Dallas for a couple of weeks with the touring production of Jesus Chris Superstar) will guitar the guitar. What fun!
